Wireless Probe Keeps Losing Connection

Stop it from coming back
Almost every wireless dropout is a placement problem rather than a product problem. A grill lid is a metal box and metal boxes attenuate radio, so the base station belongs outside in line of sight of the cooker rather than on the kitchen counter. Get that right and the published range starts to mean something; leave the receiver two walls away and no amount of firmware will rescue it.
The rest is looking after the hardware. Wash the stainless stem only. The handle contains the electronics and the battery, and unless the manufacturer explicitly rates it for immersion, water in there is a permanent failure. Never run one through a dishwasher regardless of what the marketing says.
Bluetooth is simpler and needs no network, but its range is short and it depends on your phone staying awake. Wi-Fi models reach further and let you check from anywhere, at the cost of setup and a dependency on your router. Many current systems use Bluetooth to a base station that then bridges to Wi-Fi, which is the best of both.
